Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar are in Turkey to expedite the delivery of T-129 ATAK helicopters to the Nigerian Air Force.
The Federal Government bought six T-129 ATAK helicopters from the Turkish Aerospace Industry, two of which will be delivered to NAF in the coming weeks.
The last four helicopters should arrive by the second quarter of 2024.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, said this on Sunday in Abuja.
The minister discussed crucial bilateral and defense cooperation topics with his Turkish colleague, retired Lt.-Gen Yasar Guler, as part of the visit’s programs.
Gabkwet said retired Gen. Guler had guaranteed Nigeria all the Turkish military and defense company support needed to eliminate terrorism and other crimes.
He added that Badaru and Abubakar visited Turkish Aerospace Industries, MKE, Aselsan, and Roketsan to collaborate.
“These top global defence companies make high-quality military and defence equipment.
While at these enterprises, the minister of defence asked for increased synergy between the companies and Nigeria by transferring defense technologies, Gabwat said.
