Posted by The 2022 FIFA World Cup is currently taking place in Qatar, and Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has named Eddie Nketiah to step up for the Gunners and replace first-choice striker Gabriel Jesus.
Recall that on Tuesday, Arsenal announced that Jesus had successfully recovered from the knee injury that prevented him from competing for Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar.
Jesus suffered a right knee injury against Cameroon in Brazil's last group match.
Furthermore, Xhaka acknowledged that Jesus' injury is a “sad” for his teammates, but Arsenal is confident that Nketiah, 23, can fill in for the injured former Manchester City star.
At a news conference, Xhaka mentioned Jesus and added, “I spoke with him [Jesus] directly after the Cameroon game.”
“It is unfortunate because you could see how crucial he is to us in the first round of the Premier League. I'm not sure how severe the injury is, but it could last for two to three months. However, he is a strong man.
“We have the possibility with Eddie, of course,” Xhaka said in reference to Arsenal's ambitions to replace Jesus. He had displayed excellent performances, but Gabi must come first.
Eddie will play a significant role over the course of the next two to three months, so we must support him as well.
We have the ability to get Eddie there and aid him, so I'm looking forward to it.
