The state’s public relations officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said this in a statement that came out on Saturday in Abeokuta.
Oyeyemi said that the old man who lives in the Okun Owa neighborhood of Ijebu Ode was taken into custody after a complaint was made to the divisional office for Obalende.
He said that the girl’s father had told the police that when he found his daughter, she was bleeding from her private area.
Oyeyemi says that when the girl’s father asked her why she was bleeding, she told him that the suspect had sex with her.
Oyeyemi said that Murphy Salami, head of the DPO Obalende division, sent his detectives right away to the scene, where they caught the “random old man.”
“Early investigations showed that the old man is known in the area to be a pedophile,” he said.
Oyeyemi said that the person who was hurt had been taken to the General Hospital Ijebu Ode to get medical care.
He said that Lanre Bankole, the Commissioner of Police, had told the suspect to be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and possible prosecution.
