In a news release sent to gospelcable, NSCDC Jigawa State command CSC spokesman Adamu Shehu issued the warning.

In order to prevent fires, the NSCDC recommended the general population to exercise extreme caution and take preventative measures, particularly during the harmattan season.

Adamu advised citizens to stay away from contaminated items that could cause fire incidents by only buying Kerosene and cooking gas from authorized dealers.

He claimed that this resulted from the daily reports of an increase in fire events that the command is keeping track of.

“With the coming of Harmattan Season and the cases of fire mishaps recorded in some areas in the State that consumed property and valuables worth millions of Naira, it became imperative to provide a guide and caution the general public on how to handle fire during the Harmattan and festive period that is around the corner to avert further reoccurrence,” the statement claims.

At order to prevent power surges, residents should turn off all electrical appliances after using them at home and in offices.

“Also, do not leave unattended water heating devices like kettles and ring boilers; use extra caution when using kerosene stoves, cooking gas, and firewood.”

“Always make sure the fire is fully out after using firewood. The primary cause of fire outbreaks in the majority of dwellings, especially villages, is improperly controlled firewood.

“Motorists and locals are also advised to refrain from stockpiling the commodity in fear of scarcity with the holiday season just around the corner.”

He urged parents to caution children against such behavior because it could start a fire and spread panic.
