Directives Are Issued To The Nigerian Army By President Buhari Ahead Of The 2023 Election

Prior to the 2023 general elections, President Muhammadu gave the Nigerian armed forces the order to maintain their apolitical stance on Monday in Sokoto State.
In order to ensure the smooth running of the general elections the next year, Buhari also asked them to maintain their compliance with the constitution.

In his opening remarks, Buhari urged the Army to keep improving its observance of human rights laws while conducting operations in accordance with international best practices.

Femi Adesina, the spokesman for Buhari, revealed this in a statement.

President Buhari stated that better security agency responsibilities regarding human rights are “the major pathway for winning the hearts and minds of the people.”

Regarding the general elections in 2023, the Nigerian leader stressed the importance of the Army and the armed forces in general supporting the civil authority by fostering a climate of peace for the elections' successful conduct.

Buhari was pleased that the Chief of Army Staff had already provided a revised Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement to direct personnel during the general elections in 2023.

He stated:

The professionalism you demonstrated in the successful administration of the elections in the states of Anambra, Osun, and Ekiti should also be reflected in the general elections of 2023.
