Doctoral Scholarships for International Students are now available. Doctoral candidates who want to conduct research in a unique setting are encouraged to apply for the University of Giessen’s Doctoral Scholarships. The scholarship program will run from 2023 to 2024.
This application is open to students from the DAAD-listed countries who have been designated as international applicants. They must be citizens of the relevant foreign country. Up to six students will be granted this application for a one-year term of their PhD studies at the University of Giessen. The reward is valued at €1,468.00 each month.

The University of Giessen will pay a monthly stipend of €1,468.00 to qualified candidates for up to two years of study. Parents will also receive a child allowance.
Doctoral Degree Type Scholarships for International Students are largely for Doctoral aspirants.
The number of awards is six.
Criteria for Eligibility
To be considered for the Doctoral Scholarships for International Students, all applicants must meet the following criteria.
Applicants must be citizens of one of the DAAD-listed countries.
Candidates must have graduated with distinction.
Applicants must submit a research proposal of excellent academic quality that significantly contributes to one or more of the university’s research fields.
Application Methodology

PhD applications must be submitted online at the University of Giessen. To apply for the opportunity, individuals must first register on the application platform.
Supporting documentation: Students must produce the following documentation to the university:
a motivational letter and a synopsis of your research project
a recent curriculum vitae; and two letters of recommendation from university professors
diplomas from high school and university
a detailed timetable for a PhD thesis proposal
an electronic copy of the master’s thesis
Admission Requirements: A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the humanities or social sciences is required for applicants.
Language prerequisites: Applicants must be fluent in English or German. Both languages are beneficial and should be learned during your membership/scholarship year. German language skills up to level B1 are required.
