Posted by Actor Deyemi Okanlawon of Nollywood fame has stated that he has been working in the film industry for quite some time without winning a major accolade.
He maintained his focus and emphasised that he enjoys motivating himself, even if he was not recognized by award organizers in the country.
The actor has stated that he would accept an award if it were to come his way, but that he refuses to let the validation of such recognition define him.
“I have never won any of the serious awards in Nigeria,” Okanlawon stated in a recent interview with Hip TV. If I were the sort to feel a particular way, after all this time in the entertainment industry I would have wondered why I hadn’t been given this or that accolade.
Look at me in the mirror; I can actually be proud of myself. This has been my entire life’s work. Plus, I will gladly accept affirmation or praise from outside sources. Actually, I had to train myself to accept praises rather than evade them.
You shouldn’t be defined by validation. It should be the other way around if my presence is to legitimize an award.
