As part of their exchange to the United States, the Fellows will develop Leadership Enhancement Action Plans (LEAPs) to inform their own goals. When the Fellows return home, IRI helps them stay in touch with previous, current, and future McCain Fellows. They will maintain their participation in IRI’s global network of transformational young leaders committed to democratic and economic openness in their countries through this continuous engagement.
The MFF fosters peer-to-peer learning, focused training, and the development of a new generation of political change makers who are working to construct more inclusive, transparent, and resilient democracies powered by free markets.

IRI McCain Fellowship for Freedom Eligibility Criteria
Rising leaders between the ages of 21 and 40 who are dedicated to promoting political and economic liberty in their own countries.
Not a citizen of the United States
fluent in English
Possesses extensive experience in politics, government, and/or the private sector, with a preference for individuals with cross-sectorial experience; Demonstrates a demonstrated history of and passion for advocating for democratic and free market reform; Maintains a position of authority and leadership within their current career and community. Leaders having a proven track record of success and leadership in difficult conditions.
Leaders who have the potential to revolutionize their organizations, institutions, and communities.

McCain Fellows will be required to actively participate in a multi-month program that includes, but is not limited to, the following components:
Attend six virtual seminars designed to provide specific assistance with policymaking, communication, and advocacy skills.
Participate in a 10-day in-person program in the United States to meet and learn from leaders in the public, non-profit, and private sectors. The program will be held in Washington, D.C., as well as another cities in the United States.
Launch an advocacy campaign in the fellow’s community to convey the lessons learnt through the virtual sessions and in-person exchange.
Participate in a virtual closing summit to reflect on your fellowship experience.
Engage with other fellows, including those from the last MFF program iteration, through virtual networking sessions and platforms.
