Police confirm the kidnapping of the Benue commissioner

The police have confirmed that some unidentified gunmen abducted Chief Ekpe Ogbu, the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development.

According to reports, the Commissioner and three other people were kidnapped on Sunday night around 9 p.m. at the infamous Adankari junction on the Ado-Otukpo road.

Other victims included the Commissioner's driver, whose identity has not yet been determined, and Hon Agbo Ode, one of his in-laws.

The incident was confirmed to reporters in Makurdi on Monday morning by SP Sewuese Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Command.

“Incident confirmed,” Anene remarked. We are headed in that direction. When we arrive there, I will provide you with more details.

According to sources, the Commissioner had previously attended a church service where Senator Abba Moro, of the Benue South Senatorial district, had dedicated his campaign committee to God at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Otukpo.

After the church program, he reportedly started back to his village in Ndekma, Utonkon in the Ado LGA when he was kidnapped.

Although the police have found the official Hilux van that the Commissioner was traveling in, it is still unknown where the commissioner and the other victims may be.
