Police in Abuja find a new marijuana plantation and detain a farmer

According to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Thaddeus Joseph, an alleged dealer in illegal substances who was thought to be selling , has been taken into custody.

In a statement released on Friday, DSP Josephine Adeh, the command's police public relations officer, said that all essential preparations had been completed to send the suspect's name to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further action.

According to the PPRO, the 32-year-old man resident of Kado Estate Area in the FCT was detained for the offense of having a commercial quantity of leaves that were possibly Cannabis sativa.

She claimed that on September 7, 2022, officers from the command made the arrest.

She said the arrest was the result of reliable information that the suspect maintained a sizable farm of leaves on a plot of land at Godab Estate in the Life Camp neighborhood of the city that were thought to be Cannabis sativa.

As a result of the aforementioned, a team of the Command's intelligence assets connected to the anti-drug section sprang into action, caught the suspects, and discovered the farm and removed the exhibits.

“The suspect admitted to having been a part of the practice for nearly two years in a voluntary statement he made after being arrested. The police investigation has been stepped up in order to find the supply chain and other criminal links to this alleged criminal organization while the suspects and exhibits are being moved for further examination and prosecution.

“The Commissioner of Police stated that participating in the manufacturing and consumption of such drugs is not only a crime against the law but also a criminal against one's self while asking youngsters and the community at large to avoid drug and substance-related crimes.

He also informed the Territory's good citizens of the Command's unwavering commitment to maintaining the peace and to continuing the fight against crime and criminality until it was reduced to the absolute minimum.
