Woman Arrested in Lagos For Alleged Attempt To Steal Baby For Money Ritual

A 49-year-old lady has been detained by members of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly attempting to kidnap a day-old infant from a hospital on June 23 in the state’s Ojokoro district.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the State Police Command, said the Ojokoro Police Division had information that the suspect had entered the hospital pretending to be a patient before allegedly stealing the child.

The mother was sound sleeping after having surgery when she visited the female ward with a day-old baby boy. When a different patient saw the suspect moving quickly while holding the infant, she contacted hospital staff, and the culprit was taken into custody.

“It was determined during questioning that the suspect was from Oyo State. The suspect admitted that one Alfa hired her to obtain a day-old infant for use in a ritual involving money, he said.

According to Hundeyin, subsequent inquiry revealed that this was the suspect’s second instance of kidnapping.

The infant has since been given back to the mother, according to him, and the suspect will be charged with the crime as soon as the inquiry is over.
