Social critic Reno Omokri has spoken out against President Bola Tinubu’s choice of Oladimeji Ojo, Tinubu’s son-in-law, to lead the Federal Housing Administration (FHA).
According to the DAILY POST, Ojo benefited from the reorganization of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development’s Executive Management Teams, which the President approved.
Several Nigerians, particularly those active on social media, have expressed surprise at the selection and have insisted that Nigeria is not a family company.
However, Omokri, who was an advisor to previous president Goodluck Jonathan, thinks the appointment was perfectly acceptable so long as the nominee could successfully carry out his responsibilities.
Former House of Representatives member Ojo is wed to President Tinubu’s daughter, Folasade Tinubu-Ojo.
So long as the individual in question is competent for the position, President Tinubu’s appointment of his son-in-law to lead the Federal Housing Authority is entirely justified. Omokri pointed out on X that it was not nepotism.
The brother of President John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, was named Attorney General and closest advisor by his brother. An advisor to the president and the head of the American office of innovation, Jared Kushner is the son-in-law of President Trump and was selected for the position by Trump.
In addition to Trump and Kennedy, ten other presidents of the United States have had relatives hold high-ranking jobs in the federal government.
When there is a trend of favoring friends and family members over others with more qualifications, that is when nepotism occurs. A lone occurrence does not constitute a trend.
